Rio 2: The Official Movie App Review

Like I said in my review of Cupcake Digital’s first Rio app, my son absolutely loves the first Rio movie and he cannot wait for Rio 2 (NEXT WEEK!). He was so excited to download the app that he woke me up yesterday morning so I could download it for him.

As we usually do we with these read and play apps we sat down and began the story. He was so excited to catch up with his favorite blue macaws. The story was so much fun and entertaining; He was totally engrossed. My only problem with the app, like with the first one, is that there is only one reading option available. But it’s not the end of the world.

After reading the story we moved on to the games. Unlike the previous Rio App, which had two games, this one has three. The first game is Sky Soccer. Blue has to score goals against various birds from the Amazon, each time getting more difficult. The controls for the game were really easy to use; all we had to do was drag Blue back and use the dotted red line to pick our shot. The next game was Monkey Mash, a whack-a-mole type game where monkeys pop up and you have to “mash” them by tapping them (bonus points if you can get Nigel!). The last game was Fruit Crusher. In this game you have to shoot a fruit into a larger collection of fruit by tapping and dragging. The goal is to get three or more like fruit to touch, removing them from the board. This one was a little harder for him, but after a few tries he got the hang of it.

Also included in the app is a coloring book, complete with six different coloring pages featuring our favorite blue macaws. Like the other Cupcake Digital apps with coloring books this was very easy to use.
